Time critical transfers

All referral calls should be made to the dedicated WATCh line on 0300 0300 789. 

WATCh will facilitate a conference call with the tertiary specialist (trauma team leader, neurosurgeon, general surgeon), and where necessary will contact SWAST to arrange a secondary transfer to the destination hospital.

With the exception of time critical transfers the STOPP form should be used to support the logistical decision making.

The time critical guideline can be used to support you in the preparation and transfer of the patient.  If WATCh are performing the transfer please complete the stabilisation checklist whilst you await the teams arrival.

Other useful guidelines include Intubation of the critically ill child, fixation and management of oral endotracheal tubes and the acute decreased level of consciousness and/or raised intracranial pressure.
